Terms of service
Last updated 27 October 2026
These terms apply whenever you use Trace, with or without an account. Please read them together with the Permissible use rules and the Privacy policy.
1. What Trace is
Trace helps you find public social-media profiles and public web pages that may belong to a person, and turns what it finds into a sourced report. Trace only uses information that is publicly accessible without logging in. Results are possible matches. Trace does not verify anyone's identity and does not guarantee that any profile belongs to the person you are looking for.
2. Trace is not a consumer reporting agency
Trace does not provide "consumer reports" as defined by the U.S. Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) or similar laws. You must not use Trace, its search results or its reports to decide anyone's eligibility for employment, housing, credit, insurance, education, licences or government benefits, or for any other purpose covered by the FCRA. See Permissible use.
3. Your account
You must be at least 18 to create an account. Keep access to your email secure; anyone who can read your sign-in codes can use your account. You are responsible for activity on your account.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Trace to stalk, harass, threaten, dox, defraud or discriminate against anyone; to locate someone who does not want to be found; to bypass a protective order; to build bulk databases or resell data; to scrape, overload or reverse-engineer the service; or to break any law. We may suspend accounts that break these rules without refund.
5. Payments
Paid plans and single reports are sold through our payment partner Paddle (Paddle.com Market Ltd), which acts as the merchant of record and handles tax, payment and invoicing. Monthly plans renew automatically until cancelled. Report credits included in a monthly plan expire at the end of each billing period; single-report credits do not expire. Refunds follow the Refund policy.
6. Reports and retention
Reports are for your personal use. They are deleted automatically 30 days after they are created. Download a PDF if you need a copy. You must not publish reports or use them to expose private information about anyone.
7. Accuracy and liability
Public information can be incomplete, outdated, shared by different people or simply wrong, and AI summaries can make mistakes even though every sentence must cite a source. Trace is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for decisions you make based on Trace, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law or your statutory consumer rights.
8. People who appear in results
Anyone can ask us to exclude their profiles using the removal request form.
9. Changes and contact
We may update these terms; the date above shows the latest version, and material changes are announced on the site before they take effect. Questions: contact us.
